Terminalia Chebula is an important plant in pharmaceutics, its importance is generally due to number of therapeutic uses. It is commonly called Hritaki. It is known as black myroban in English and harad in Hindi Traditional medicine system in India Ayurved has ranked this plant as an essential herb. In ayurveda Terminalia chebula is known to cure all dosas, stimulates digestive capacity, rasayana and vriseya and shows immunomodulatory properties and thus help in improving body’s defense system. In Tibet it is known as “king of the medicines”. This herb has a special mention in various traditional medicine systems due to its extraordinary power of healing. The wide application of this herb in traditional medicine systems is attributed to presence of tannins ,alkaloida and other phytochemicals present in this herb.
