Abstract:

The successful placement of dental implant in todays era dates back to extensive research work of Branemark on dental implantology. Previously osseointegration was solely factor considered to decide the success of implant and its survival in oral cavity. But as we know that many other factors play a keyrole in maintenance of a prosthesis, so such a single factor cannot be evaluated for assessing implant success. Many criterias have been proposed till now but no one is accurate that can be relied upon. This literature review takes acomprehensive look at various factors affecting success of dental implants and the criterias given by researchers for success of dental implant.
