Abstract:

Diabetes mellitus can be associated with serious complications, but people with diabetes can take preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of such occurrences. There are mainly two types of complications of diabetes mellitus: acute and chronic complications. A non-experimental descriptive survey was done to determine the knowledge related on complications of diabetes mellitus among patients with diabetes mellitus in Nadathara Panchayath, Thrissur. The sample size was 30 patients with diabetic mellitus. Non probability purposive sampling technique was adapted for the selection of samples. The data was collected by using structured knowledge questionnaire with interview technique. The result shows that majority (66.67%) of the samples had moderate level knowledge about complications of diabetes mellitus. So educational initiatives are needed to encourage the patient to seek early medical attention and raise awareness about complications of diabetic mellitus as a part of primordial preventive measure.
